The turbine Pay'n Pak was an important boat in the history of hydroplane racing, as it became the first boat to win a race with a turbine engine. After some middling years in 1980 and 1981, John Walters piloted the boat to the victory in Syracuse, NY. The team finished 7th in national high points, however the boat was unfortunately destroyed in a crash in the Tri-Cities.
